BlackBerry Internet Service

BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) is perfect if you want simple mobile email access to your ISP or webmail email accounts. BIS hooks your BlackBerry device into your existing email accounts. You receive your email messages immediately, wherever you are, as easily as you now receive TXTs. If you can use email, you can use BlackBerry.

Its easy to use, its always on and there is no complicated connection process. In fact, setting up an email account is as easy as entering your email address and password on your BlackBerry. In most cases, your email will be configured automatically, in seconds.

And when you get back to your PC, you can synchronise your BlackBerry so that all your messages, contacts, calendars and tasks are the same in both places.

Why go mobile with BlackBerry?

BlackBerry lets you deal with your email anywhere, anytime. As soon as a message arrives, your BlackBerry lets you know. You don't need to log on or manually check. Your emails arrive just like TXTs. You don't have to take a laptop with you to access your email, or even to access the web. Your BlackBerry does it all.

And of course, your BlackBerry is also a powerful, fully featured mobile phone. You can have all your calling, TXTing, emails and web access on one device. Some of the features of BlackBerry Internet Service include:

  • You can manage up to 10 of your email addresses, each one with its own signature, filters and inbox.
  • Browse the web anywhere, in full colour
  • Keep your calendar, contacts, tasks and memos with you wherever you go
  • Your BlackBerry can access your email in over 40 countries, and operate as a mobile in over 140

How does the BlackBerry server work?

The BlackBerry Server software is designed for organisations that have their own email server; Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, or Novell Groupwise. There are two versions of the BlackBerry Server depending on the number of BlackBerry users your organisation has or might grow to.

  • BlackBerry Professional Software (BPS) starts at one user and goes up to thirty - and it can be downloaded for free for the first user. If you need to expand beyond 30 users then you will need to upgrade to the BlackBerry Enterpirse Server (BES).
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) starts at 20 users and goes all the way up to several thousand users.

Both of these versions of the BlackBerry Server software operate in the same way.

The basic steps in receiving an email are as follows:

  • The BlackBerry Enterprise server compresses, encrypts and forwards the message automatically to your BlackBerry handset.
  • Message arrives at the BlackBerry via the Internet and the Vodafone network
  • The handheld receives, decrypts and decompresses the email, and alerts the user

Security, management and support - the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server connects to your organisation's existing IT systems and works in tandem with your email server (e.g. Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Novell Groupwise).

Security

From the BlackBerry server to the handheld, Triple DES Encryption or AES Encryption secures your communications. This ultra-tough encryption is why BlackBerry has been so popular all over the world with government organisations and financial institutions.

Management

The BlackBerry server provides IT departments with simplified management and centralised control of all BlackBerry users. The server remains under the complete control of your IT department.

Support

BlackBerry service & support combines Vodafones specialist support backed up by our carrier relationship with BlackBerry. We will support all aspects of your BlackBerry service.
